Personal Reaction - I absolutely loved this book, I couldn't put it down. I don't know how I've missed reading this until the age of 35. This story is beautifully written and really grabs ahold of the reader.
Memorable Literary Element - I enjoyed the fact that the story is told from young Annemarie's viewpoint. This really brings the reader into the story, puts the reader in Annemarie's place.
Illustrations - There is a picture of a young blonde haired girl and a necklace that holds The Star od David charm.
Review - "The whole work is seamless, compelling, and memorable—impossible to put down; difficult to forget."

***Promotion idea - Create a comic book ( or flip book ) displaying at least five major events from the story. Draw and color the scenes. Use as many direct quotations from the story to clearly explain the events illustrated on each page of the flip book. For example, a scene/event can may be the soldiers stopping the girls on the corner as they ran home from school. Write in word bubbles what each character said. These can be put on display in the library for a parents to view. This would go along with a social studies unit concerning WWI
